Last week I ran into problems with a virtual machine to create snapshots, the buttons were simply disabled and the whole function to create snapshots seemed to be disappeared - only for this particular VM though. After comparing the config files (vmx) of two different vm's, I figured out, it must be something with the VirtualHardware version number. To solve this problem, just follow this howto.
