Elastic X-Pack error after updating Logstash
Monday - Sep 11th 2017 - by - (0 comments)

After I updated logstash from 1:5.5.1-1 to 1:5.5.2-1 today, a restart of Logstash failed with the following error message:

[2017-09-11T11:01:57,502][FATAL][logstash.runner          ] An unexpected error occurred! {:error=>#<ArgumentError: Setting "xpack.monitoring.elasticsearch.url" hasn't been registered>, :backtrace=>["/usr/share/logstash/logstash-core/lib/logstash/settings.rb:32:in `get_setting'", "/usr/share/logstash/logstash-core/lib/logstash/settings.rb:64:in `set_value'", "/usr/share/logstash/logstash-core/lib/logstash/settings.rb:83:in `merge'", "org/jruby/RubyHash.java:1342:in `each'", "/usr/share/logstash/logstash-core/lib/logstash/settings.rb:83:in `merge'", "/usr/share/logstash/logstash-core/lib/logstash/settings.rb:135:in `validate_all'", "/usr/share/logstash/logstash-core/lib/logstash/runner.rb:244:in `execute'", "/usr/share/logstash/vendor/bundle/jruby/1.9/gems/clamp-0.6.5/lib/clamp/command.rb:67:in `run'", "/usr/share/logstash/logstash-core/lib/logstash/runner.rb:209:in `run'", "/usr/share/logstash/vendor/bundle/jruby/1.9/gems/clamp-0.6.5/lib/clamp/command.rb:132:in `run'", "/usr/share/logstash/lib/bootstrap/environment.rb:71:in `(root)'"]}

Reason for this is that the X-Pack plugin for Logstash is now outdated and must be installed again:

root@elk01:/usr/share/logstash# bin/logstash-plugin install x-pack
Downloading file: https://artifacts.elastic.co/downloads/logstash-plugins/x-pack/x-pack-5.5.2.zip
Downloading [=============================================================] 100%
Installing file: /tmp/studtmp-18cf6972e1475343a4db37fe32c59de5722bf30f1014098f3ba75869d405/x-pack-5.5.2.zip
Install successful

A restart of Logstash then worked again:

root@elk01:/usr/share/logstash# service logstash restart
